Avtorica proučuje temeljne mehanizme promocije zdravja nasploh in posebej v Sloveniji. Razpravlja o diskurzu javnega zdravstva, odnosih moči v njem, identitetah, ki jih določa, družbenih vlogah, problemih in njihovih možnih rešitvah, odgovornosti za identificiranje javno zdravstvenih problemov ter za reševanje problemov zdravja. Avtorica predstavi temeljna prepričanja na katera se opirajo teorije in dejavnosti za promocijo zdravja (resnice epidemiološke znanosti, vloga informiranja, prednost preventive, zdravje kot najvišja vrednota, zdravje kot kapital ipd.). Pri tem izpostavi množične medije kot osrednji prostor razširjanja in strukturiranja informacij in njihovo vlogo v promociji zdravja ustrezno prikaže skupaj z vlogo t.i. socialnega marketinga.V tem kontekstu s pomočjo konkretnih primerov iz slovenske prakse problematizira mediatizacijo zdravstvenih vprašanj. Opozarja na razhajanje med političnimi programi promocije zdravja in komunikacijskimi dejavnostmi s tega področja ter izpostavlja ključne razloge neučinkovitosti komunikacijskih intervencij za promocijo zdravja v Sloveniji. S tega vidika je pričujoče delo aktualno tudi za razumevanje prakse promocije zdravja v Sloveniji.
