Knjiga prinaša najnovejša teoretična spoznanja o sodobnih kompleksnih krizah, procesu kriznega upravljanja in vodenja in v tem kontekstu o eni njegovih ključnih dejavnosti, t.j. o kriznem komuniciranju. Kot pravi znameniti nemški sociolog Ulrich Beck, so sodobne družbe na prelomu tisočletja postale družbe visokega tveganja, zato so družbene institucije in družbena skupnost izpostavljene števlnim kriznim situacijam. Avtorji knjige želijo prek pojasnjevanja življenjskega cikla krize opozoriti na ključne dileme in probleme kriznega komuniciranja in predstavijo njegove glavne strategije in taktike. Knjiga prinaša tudi najnovejša spoznanja o psihosocialnih vidikih kriznega komuniciranja. Poleg svežih teoretičnih spoznanj, ponuja knjiga tudi bogato empirično analizo komuniciranja v različnih kompleksnih krizah, ki imajo svoj izvor v delovanju naravnih sil, neprimernih človekovih posegih v okolje, tehničnih napakah in v političnih konfliktih. Pri tem avtorji največ pozornosti posvečajo krizam, ki so se v obdobju 1998-2003 zgodile v Slovenije ali pa so se zgodile drugje in so imele implikacije za varnost naše države, hkrati pa preučijo tudi izkušnje drugih držav in Evropske unije na področju kriznega komuniciranja. V zaključku monografije avtorji na podlagi znanstvenih spoznanj ponudijo strategijo kriznega komuniciranja v Sloveniji, ki je namenjena praktični uporabi v prihodnjih krizah.
