Knjiga  ponuja  kritični vpogled  v spoznavno-teoretska načela  sodobnih družbenih ved.  Ukvarja se z  vprašanji kritičnega racionalizma in relativizma v družbenih vedah,  problema strukturne identičnosti in razlike med kategorijo znanstvene razlage in znanstvene napovedi, holističnega in individualističnega pristopa k preučevanju družbenih pojavov,  idealno tipskih analiz  v družbenih znanostih,  razmerja med kategorijo vzroka in smotra v klasičnih funkcionalističnih in modernih sistemskih družbenih teorijah.  Avtor knjige na temelju izvirne analize vodilnih epistemoloških pogledov  dvajsetega stoletja dokazuje, da so razprave o različnih tipih znanstvenih metod  danes še kako potrebne za samorefleksijo in razvoj družboslovja in niso nič manj aktualne kot so bile v času Maxa Webra. Takrat se je prvič jasno postavila zahteva po preseganju ločitve med metodo znanstvene razlage in metodo znanstvenega razumevanja.  V pričujočem delu je bolj  kot iskanje razlik med metodo znanstvenega razumevanja in metodo znanstvene razlage, med individualističnim in holističnim pristopom v družbenih vedah, med znanstvenim relativizmom in znanstvenim pozitivizmom,  poudarjena zahteva po iskanju stičnih točk oziroma po sintezi različnih pogledov. Iz tega razloga se v tem teoretsko kompleksnem, vendar zato intelektualno toliko bolj izzivalnem delu na presečišče hermenevtične in pozitivstično-analitične miselne tradicije postavljeni pogledi štirih vodilnih  teoretikov znanosti dvajsetega stoletja (Popperjev racionalizem, Kuhnov relativizem, Webrova interpretativna metoda, Luhmannova metoda funkcionalne ekvivalentnosti). Epistemološke tematike, ki so obravnavane v pričujočem delu so aktualne v času oblikovanja novega, transdisciplinarnega tipa znanstvenega vedenja, ko naj bi se vzpostavile nove kognitivne in družbene oblike povezav med družboslovjem in naravoslovjem.
