Učbenik združuje štiri temeljna poglavja o jezikovnokulturnih pristopih k slovenskemu knjižnemu jeziku. V poglavju o jezikovnem purizmu avtorica ob prikazu dveh osnovnih tipov purizma navaja zglede purističnih posegov proti najstarejšim germanizmom in romanizmom, novejšim slavizmom in sodobnim anglizmom, da bi naslovnika opozorila na nevarnosti skrajnega purizma ter razmislek o sodobni normi in njenem razumevanju. Poglavje o jezikovnem purizmu je nujen vstop v osrednji vhod k bistvu zadeve, k jezikovni kulturi, njeni teoriji in praksi. To je zahtevno, vendar razumljivo razpravljanje o osnovah teorije knjižnega jezika z razlagami jezikoslovnih pojmov splošna raba – norma – kodifikacija, kakor tudi jezikovno načrtovanje in jezikovna politika. V tretjem poglavju z naslovom Strokovno izrazje, strokovno pisanje in jezikovna kultura avtorica predstavi zgled iz izrazoslovnega postopka pri dopolnjevanju manjkajočega v komunikološki stroki. Iz zgledov je razvidno, kako poteka izrazoslovno (praviloma kolektivno in interdisciplonarno) delo, kako se upoštevajo posebnosti te ali kake druge strokovne panoge, kako se novo prilagaja obstoječemu poimenovalnemu sistemu stroke in kako se uresničuje najpomembnejše – terminološki dogovor. Četrto poglavje Jezikovno načrtovanje in slovenščina v Evropski uniji prikazuje najbolj aktualno problematiko v zvezi z upravljanjem jezika. Prvič v zgodovini stoji slovenščina nasproti jezikom Evrope v enakopravnem položaju brez bojazni za obstoj, vendar se mora – kot nakazuje avtorica v podrobnih podpoglavjih – za prilagajanje temu novemu položaju pripravljati ravno s postopki jezikovne kulture. Ti so v pričujoči knjigi dani kot poduk in za učenje.

Avtorica je ob vsakem od glavnih štirih poglavij navedla pomembnejšo študijsko literaturo in seveda številne jezikoslovne vire.
