Avtorji raziskujejo načela občega prava s katerimi se razmejuje morje med dvema državama v primeru, da grozi, da bi ena država ostala odrezana do izhoda na odprto morje. Njihova teza je, da naj bi pogodbena praksa in judikatura težili k temu, da se potencialno prikrajšanim državam omogoči dostop do odprtega morja. V ta namen so obravnavani primeri Gambije in Senegala, Kenije in Tanzanije, Monaka in Francije, Francije in Dominike, Mozambika in Tanzanije ter tri razsodbe na podobno problematiko.

Avtorje njihovo raziskovanje ni zaneslo do te mere, da bi trdili, da so nesporno dokazali svojo tezo. Opozarjajo na to, da so dejstva na razpolago pri uspešno rešenih vprašanjih, žal pa ni podatkov o morebitnih neuspešnih primerih mirnega reševanja sporov niti o primerih, kjer ni prišlo do realizacije pravice dostopa do odprtega morja.

Ne glede na to pa bodo njihova spoznanja prav gotovo v pomoč vsakemu posamezniku, tudi strokovnjakom in še posebej strokovnjakom za mednarodno pravo, ki se bodo ukvarjali s problematiko razdelitve Jadranskega morja med Hrvaško in Slovenijo. Širšo javnost pa bodo pritegnila še posebej spoznanja o načelih pravične razmejitve.
