Kako spodbuditi tuje investicije v nove projekte? So zanje primerna nepovratna sredstva? Kako uspešne so bile dosedanje spodbude? Vprašanja, ki so v številnih državah in regijah pogosto na dnevnem redu, a kljub temu redko dobijo celovite in empirično podprte odgovore. Monografija predstavlja uspešnost in učinke spodbud tujim neposrednim investicijam v Sloveniji v zadnjem desetletju. Avtorji uspešnost programa dodeljevanja nepovratnih sredstev za začetne investicije Javne agencije RS za podjetništvo in tuje investicije (JAPTI) in učinke podpore celovito ocenijo s paleto kvalitativnih in kvantitativnih metod, strnejo teorijo in predhodne empirične izkušnje o učinkovitosti spodbud za TNI, predstavijo JAPTI-jev program dodeljevanja nepovratnih sredstev za začetne tuje investicije, ter na osnovi kvantitativni ocen učinkov ter kvalitativni vidiki delovanja teh podjetij podajo ključne ugotovitve in predloge za ekonomsko politiko. Rezultati kažejo nadpovprečno uspešno delovanje podprtih podjetij v tuji lasti in dobro izpolnjevanje kvalitativnih meril za dodeljevanje sredstev, kar pomeni, da upravičujejo dodelitev sredstev in sam izbor projektov. Prejemniki spodbud dobro zasledujejo uresničevanje ciljev na področju zaposlenosti in rasti prodaje, manj uspešno pa je spodbujanje ustvarjanja in prelivanja znanja, pospeševanje prenosa tehnologije in uvajanje inovacij
