Pričujoča monografija predstavlja rezultate raziskave, katere namen je bil ugotoviti, kakšna so stališča prebivalcev in posameznih družbenih skupin do gensko spremenjenih organizmov (GSO) ter na tej osnovi oblikovati nabor ključnih socio-ekonomskih dejavnikov, pomembnih za pridelavo GS-rastlin v Sloveniji. Proučevanje socio-ekonomskih dejavnikov pridelave GS-rastlin in merjenje stališč prebivalcev do GSO je zahtevalo multidisciplinaren in celovit pristop ter različna znanja tako z družboslovnega kot naravoslovnega področja.

Monografija je sestavljena iz dveh delov. V prvem delu so predstavljena stališča o GSO, drugi del pa obravnava socio-ekonomske dejavnike pridelave GS-rastlin. V prvem poglavju Jožica Zajc, Karmen Erjavec, Luka Juvančič in Jelka Šuštar Vozlič predstavljajo družbeni kontekst oblikovanja stališč do GSO, v drugem poglavju pa Jožica Zajc in Karmen Erjavec stališča ključnih družbenih akterjev do GSO. V tretjem poglavju Luka Juvančič, Jožica Zajc, Karmen Erjavec, Jelka Šuštar Vozlič in Melita Poler Kovačič odgovarjajo na vprašanje, kakšno je stališče prebivalcev Slovenije do različnih vrst, uporab in oddaljenosti pridelave GS-rastlin.

V drugem delu monografije najprej Luka Juvančič in Melita Poler Kovačič predstavljata obstoječi pravni okvir upoštevanja socio-ekonomskih dejavnikov pridelave GS-rastlin in rezultate vrednotenja dosedanjih raziskav o socio-ekonomskih dejavnikih GS-pridelave. Sledi poglavje, kjer Jožica Zajc in Karmen Erjavec odgovarjata na vprašanje, kakšna so mnenja ključnih akterjev na področju GSO v Sloveniji o socio-ekonomskih dejavnikih uvedbe pridelave GS-rastlin v Sloveniji. V predzadnjem poglavju Luka Juvančič, Jožica Zajc, Karmen Erjavec, Jelka Šuštar Vozlič in Melita Poler Kovačič predstavijo stališče prebivalcev Slovenije o socio-ekonomskih dejavnikih pridelave GS-rastlin v Sloveniji. Predlog relevantnih socio-ekonomskih dejavnikov pridelave GS-rastlin v Sloveniji je predstavljen v zadnjem poglavju monografije.
