Mojce Vizjak Pavšič Metode raziskovanja v družbenih vedah vsebuje  recenzije izbranih knjig s področja družboslovne metodologije in statistike slovenskih avtorjev in pogovore avtorice z vrhunskimi statistiki in metodologi, ki osvetljujejo najsodobnejše tokove na področju družboslovne metodologije v svetu ter pojasnjujejo zapletene matematične in statistične probleme, pojme in postopke na jasen in razumljiv način. Temi, ki jih knjiga posebej podrobno obravnava, sta razvoj anketne metodologije in analize socialnih omrežij, ki sta še zlasti v zadnjih dveh desetletjih doživeli izjemen razvoj.

Delo prikazuje razvoj družboslovne statistike in metodologije v Sloveniji. V skoraj tridesetletnem razvoju je jasno videti, da o začetnih razkorakih in mankih v slovenski statistiki in metodologiji danes ni več mogoče govoriti. Še več, nekatera imena slovenske statistike in metodologije v družboslovju so v tujini prav tako ugledna kot v Sloveniji. Sočasno z znanstvenim razvojem družboslovne metodologije je mogoče opaziti tudi institucionalni razvoj, od ustanavljanja raziskovalnih skupin in centrov, katerih primarna vsebina raziskovanja je družboslovna metodologija, do razvoja novih vsebin in študijev na dodiplomskem in podiplomskem univerzitetnem študiju. Ljubljanska šola analize omrežij, ki povezuje raziskovalce s Fakultete za družbene vede, Fakultete za matematiko in fiziko ter Ekonomske fakultete Univerze v Ljubljani, je eno od treh svetovno znanih evropskih središč razvoja analize omrežij.
