Neposredne investicije v tujini ostajajo med najbolj vplivnimi vzvodi vključevanja v globalno menjavo in ohranjanja konkurenčnih prednosti podjetij. Z neposredno prisotnostjo na tujih trgih podjetja hitreje osvajajo nove trge in krepijo tržni položaj, lažje sledijo svojim kupcem, dostopajo do novega znanja in tehnologij ter drugih virov ter se hitreje odzivajo na spremembe v poslovnem okolju. Pričujoča monografija deset let po prvem sistematičnem preverjanju motivov, ovir in učinkov kreiranja slovenskih multinacionalnih podjetij ponovno prikaže zakaj, kako in s kakšnimi učinki se slovenska podjetja lotevajo neposrednega investiranja v tujini in išče spremembe v razvoju domačih multinacionalk. Obdobje po veliki gospodarski krizi na agregatni ravni pokaže usihanje slovenskih investicij v tujini in skromne razvojne premike, številna – predvsem velika podjetja (ki so se tradicionalno uvrščala na seznam največjih domačih multinacionalk) upočasnijo (ali celo prekinejo) uresničevanje strategij mednarodne rasti in ne uspejo ohraniti tržnih položajev v tujini, razširi pa se delež malih in srednje velikih neposrednih investitorjev v tujini, med katerimi mnoga  zasledujejo tudi bolj raznolike in drzne strategije mednarodnega poslovanja. Kljub velikim spremembam v globalnem in slovenskem poslovnem okolju je sprememb v osnovnih značilnosti investitorjev in njihovih enot v tujini, ovirah za investicije v tujini ter ocenah delovanja države pri spodbujanju izhodne internacionalizacije slovenskih podjetij v primerjavi z rezultati iz obdobja pred vstopom v EU zelo malo, kar kaže na šibko odzivnost menedžmenta (predvsem velikih in državno nadzorovanih) slovenskih podjetij na poslovne tendence in možnosti izboljšanja kakovosti upravljanja slovenskih podjetij.
