V zborniku enaindvajset avtorjev razpravlja o vojni in z njo povezanimi etičnimi, moralnimi in pravnimi vprašanji, mednarodnem humanitarnem pravu in temah, ki se nanašajo nanj, ter o Sloveniji in mednarodnem humanitarnem pravu.

Prvi del zbornika  obudi spomin na starejšo slovensko literaturo o vojnem pravu in profesorja Ivana Tomšiča, avtorja prve slovenske knjige o vojnem pravu. 

Sledi uvodni del o etičnih, moralnih in pravnih vidikih vojne. Iztok Simoniti v svojem uvodnem eseju Pravo in vojna opozarja na nemoč prava. Janez Juhant v svojem članku Religiozno-etični izvori sodobnih humanitarnih sistemov izhaja iz morale, osnovane na krščanstvu. Peter Zimmermann piše o vprašanju etičnosti proizvodnje orožja, značilnostih desetdnevne vojne in njeni upravičenosti.

Osrednji del zbornika je namenjen sodobnim trendom, vlogi mednarodnih organizacij in sodišč ter temam, ki se nanašajo na Slovenijo. Bojko Bučar v zgodovinski kontekst postavi razvoj mednarodnega humanitarnega prava (MHP), Boštjan Jerman se posveča vprašanjem razorožitve oziroma odnosa med razorožitvenim pravom in MHP. Zoran Tratnik se ukvarja zvprašanjem uporabljivosti MHP pri sodobnih varnostnih grožnjah, Mateja Štrumelj Piškur piše o problematiki neregularnih bojevnikov. Savin Jogan v svojem prispevku prikaže mednarodnopravno ureditev varstva kulturnih dobrin z vidika pomena določb mednarodnih pogodb s tega področja za zaščito kulturnih dobrin v oboroženem spopadu, Borut Mahnič pa obravnava vlogo OZN na področju MHP. Raphaël Gonçalves Alves piše o vlogi MORK pri spodbujanju in razvoju MHP. Marko Rakovec piše o pregonu resnih kršitev ženevskih konvencij po univerzalni kazenski jurisdikciji, Simona Drenik pa o relevantni sodni praksi ESČP v zvezi z MHP. Mateja Grašek v prispevku Slovenski odbor za mednarodno humanitarno pravo in nacionalni odbori izbranih evropskih držav prikaže delovanje slovenskega nacionalnega odbora za MHP, ki ima dvajsetletno tradicijo, in ga primerja z odbori drugih držav. Jana Škerbinek v prispevku Sodna praksa v zvezi z mednarodnim humanitarnim pravom analizira odločbe slovenskih sodišč, v katerih so bili uporabljeni predpisi mednarodnega javnega prava in MHP.  Dejavnosti Rdečega križa Slovenije na področju MHP so prikazane v članku Nuške Jerman. Magdalena Petrič in Milica Slokar v svojem prispevku prikažeta razdelitev nalog med slovenskimi ministrstvi in drugimi institucijami za uresničevanje Konvencije o varstvu kulturnih dobrin v primeru oboroženega spopada in obeh dodatnih protokolov h konvenciji.

Sklepni del zbornika uvajata z MHP povezani temi nevračanja (non refoulement) in intervencije zaradi humanitarne pomoči. Staša Tkalec obravnava vprašanje zaščite beguncev, ki zapustijo svojo državo zaradi oboroženih spopadov. Ana Polak Petrič pa obravnava vprašanje intervencije z vidika mednarodne humanitarne pomoči, ki je potrebna zaradi pomoči, reševanja in zaščite prizadetih prebivalcev ob naravnih nesrečah. 

Zbornik skleneta pojmovnik mednarodnega humanitarnega prava in angleško-slovenski slovar pojmov, ki dopolnjuje pojmovnik. Ta vsebuje temeljne pojme o obravnavani pravni veji, pa tudi nekatera osebna in geografska imena, pomembna za mednarodno humanitarno pravo, zlasti s slovenskega vidika.
