Publikacija V senci digitalnih velikanov: sodobni trendi v slovenskem digitalnem novinarstvu preizprašuje komunikacijski potencial interneta in vlogo novih tehnologij v družbenem  komuniciranju. Pri tem se osredotoča na vprašanje, kako se v času prevlade digitalnih komunikacijskih tehnologij spreminjata narava novinarskega dela in zmožnost novinarstva, da izpolnjuje svojo normativno družbeno vlogo. Analizira tudi aktualne probleme slovenskega novinarstva, ki so plod političnih in ekonomskih pritiskov na eni ter prelomnih tehnoloških sprememb na drugi strani. 

Publikacija je sestavljena iz dveh delov. Prvi del predstavlja raziskava, ki temelji na intervjujih z novinarji, uredniki, tržniki in ostalimi sodelavci petih slovenskih medijev (Večer, 24ur.com, MMC, Val 202 in Siol.Net). V tem delu, ki sta ga pripravila Sašo Slaček Brlek in Jernej Kaluža, so podrobneje predstavljene strukturne spremembe na ravni posameznih medijskih organizacij, preoblikovanje novinarskega dela ter vplivi digitalnih platform, procesov upodatkovljenja in algoritmizacije na slovenske medijske hiše. Drugi del publikacije predstavljajo razprave v obliki esejev, ki raziskavo dopolnjujejo ter postavljajo v širši zgodovinski in teoretski okvir. Eseje so prispevali Jernej Amon Prodnik, Boris Vezjak, Martin Mittendorfer, Tanja Kerševan Smokvina, Melita Poler Kovačič, Peter Sekloča, Slavko Splichal in Igor Vobič.

Publikacija je - s tem ko  prepleta najnovejša raziskovalna spoznanja o stanju slovenskega digitalnega novinarstva in teoretsko-normativne razprave o družbeni vlogi novinarstva - namenjena tako znanstveni skupnosti kot samim novinarjem ter nenazadnje vsem tistim, ki jih zanimajo daljnosežne in radikalne spremembe, ki smo jim zadnja leta priča na področju družbenega komuniciranja.
